Mediation and Arbitration

Mediation is a type of non-binding alternative dispute resolution whereby a neutral third party, called a mediator, helps the parties in disagreement reach a mutually satisfactory resolution of disputed issues.

Arbitration is a type of binding alternative dispute resolution wherein a third party, called an arbitrator, makes a binding decision to end the dispute outside of court.

Todd Manley mediates approximately 200 cases per year. He has been a member of the South Carolina Bar Association for more than 25 years.

Matthew Halverstadt is engaged in both litigation and mediation. He has been a member of the South Carolina Bar since 2007.

Our Attorneys

Todd Manley

Todd Manley graduated from University of South Carolina School of Law in 1994 where he was awarded the Order of Wig and Robe for his academic accomplishments. Todd also received his undergraduate degree from University of South Carolina where he graduated with cum laude honors.

Todd was an attorney and shareholder with Seaton & Manley, PC from 1994 through 2001. He thereafter formed his law firm — Manley Law Firm, LLC. In , Todd and Matthew Halverstadt formed Manley & Halverstadt, LLC.

Todd has served on numerous local and State boards during his career. Most recently, Todd served as a Board Member on the State Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Section Council from 2013 through 2016. He has also been a speaker and presenter on the topics of family law, mediation, and arbitration for numerous organizations, including the South Carolina Bar Association, the Charleston County Bar Association, and the Berkeley County Bar Association.

Todd has been a Board-certified family court mediator since 2004. He now has a State-wide dispute resolution practice, where he mediates and arbitrates nearly 200 cases per year.

Todd is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, the Supreme Court of South Carolina, and the South Carolina Bar Association.

Todd lives in Charleston, South Carolina with his wife, Meredith, who is also an attorney.

Matthew Halverstadt

Originally from Pinehurst, North Carolina, Matthew Halverstadt initially attended North Carolina State University where he was a member of the football team. He later transferred to University of South Carolina where he graduated in 2004 with a double major in business management and marketing, and a minor in psychology. In 2007, Matt received his Juris Doctor from the Charleston School of Law in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was a member of the first graduating class.

After graduation and admission to the South Carolina Bar Association in 2007, Matt worked as an associate attorney with Manley Law Firm, LLC, which evolved into Manley & Halverstadt, LLC in 2015. Manley & Halverstadt, LLC operates its practice out of offices in Charleston and Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Matt's primary areas of practice are domestic relations litigation, civil litigation, personal injury litigation, and criminal defense. Matt has been a certified Family Court and Probate Court mediator since 2013, and he enjoys helping parties resolve their differences through alternative dispute resolution.

As recently as 2016, Matt served as President of the Berkeley County Bar Association, and he continues active roles in the Berkeley County and Charleston County Bar Associations.

Matt lives in Charleston, South Carolina with his lovely wife, Tara, and their two beautiful daughters, Leece and Madison. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, and college football season.
